How does Unravel Carbon assess materiality?

When you complete your company profile, our platform  processes key information about your industry, sector, value chain and business facilities that is used to determine your material emissions sources.

Your consultant will couple this information with insights from your onboarding session to finalise your materiality assessment and emissions inventory boundary. This determines the data that will need to be prepared and uploaded to Unravel Carbon to complete your emissions inventory.

Unravel Carbon has three materiality categories - Low, Medium and High. Below is a summary of some of  the differences  between each category:

Category Size Risk Sector guidance Other
Low Expected to make up <5% of your Scope 3 emissions Unlikely to contribute to your company's climate risk exposure Deemed insignificant by relevant sector guidance Emissions category is not reported by most of your peers
Medium Expected to make up 5-20% of your Scope 3 emissions May contribute to your company's climate risk exposure Deemed significant by relevant sector guidance Emissions category is reported by some of your peers
