What are Scope 3 Category 1 emissions?

Purchased Goods & Services emissions from the extraction, production, and transportation of goods and services purchased by your company. Also known as cradle-to-gate or embodied emissions. This category includes all the consumables and services that your company uses as part of its day-to-day operations.

What template do I use?

Step 1: How to Download File Templates

  1. Go to Unravel Carbon and login.

  2. Click on “Measure” and “Upload data” in the sidebar

  1. On the top right hand corner of the page, click on “Download file template”

  1. Select the type of file template you are looking for. Click on “Download”. Please refer to the details in your Guide to determine which template to download.

Step 2: Preparing your data

How do I fill in the template?

For our engine to transform your data into emission figures, we would need the following information:

Where can I find this data?

This data can also be found within systems in your company. The following table explains where you might find the information you need.

Scope 3 Category 1
(Purchased Goods & Services) This data will likely be found in your ERP / procurement system(s) / bill of materials. You are recommended to engage your Finance / Procurement / Operations team(s) for this set of data.

Step 3: Uploading your data

Uploading excel / csv data templates

  1. Go to Unravel Carbon

  2. Click on “Measure” and “Upload data” in the sidebar

  1. Select “Upload data” for the category of data you wish to upload. You can use the filters on the left-hand side of the page to filter the date category list.

  1. Select the file and tab that you wish to upload from your file upload menu

Mapping data columns

  1. You will be able to see the list of data sets you have uploaded. Click on Next

  1. Columns in your dataset will be mapped automatically to the columns required on the platform. For columns that are unmapped, you can select a relevant column within the dropdown.

Fixing data format errors

  1. If there are any data format issues, it will be flagged by the platform. Click on “Fix formatting errors” to automatically fix formatting issues.

<aside> 💡 Do note that it is crucial that each line item uploaded should have a unique transaction ID, and your business facilities in your uploaded dataset are mapped exactly to what has been set in your organisational structure.

If there are errors to the dates and country names (e.g., different case, spelling error, additional space bar), our platform will flag out these errors.

  1. Click on ‘Import’.

  2. Once done, you may check on the status of the file uploaded in the “Data history” page.

  1. On the tabs at the left side of the page, you can head over to any part of the ‘Track’ tab to see your emissions!
