How Customer Carbon Footprints are Calculated

This document explains how our Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) engine calculates customer emissions, providing transparency and confidence in the results. We adhere to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, a globally recognized standard, and undergo regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Key Principles:

Calculation Process (Simplified):

For more details, please view the Appendix

  1. Data Input: Customers provide data about their resources, either individually or through bulk uploads using our templates. This data includes quantities, units, and other relevant information.
  2. Emission Factor Retrieval: The engine retrieves the appropriate emission factors based on the resource type and customer selections. Emission factors are conversion rates that link activity data to greenhouse gas emissions (e.g., kg CO2e per kWh of electricity).
  3. Unit Conversion: The engine ensures consistency by converting all quantities to the units used in the emission factor.
  4. Calculation: The engine performs the calculation by multiplying the quantity of the resource by the corresponding emission factor.
  5. Results: The calculated emissions are then attributed to the appropriate lifecycle stage and sector.
